NCLR Urges Swift Confirmation of Mari Carmen Aponte
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee begins confirmation hearings on her nomination today.
“We fully support Mari Carmen’s nomination to be the U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador. Her experience, background, and qualifications make her an excellent choice to represent the best of our country,” said Janet Murguía, NCLR President and CEO.
“Mari Carmen Aponte is a teacher, a highly accomplished lawyer in the private sector, a distinguished public servant, and a wonderfully compassionate human being. She has also engaged in many community service activities, including service on the boards of NCLR and the National Alliance for Hispanic Health, chairing or serving on a number of American Bar Association committees, and participating in numerous charitable efforts. She is the ideal person to serve as our country’s representative to El Salvador, a nation with which we have close, inextricable ties,” Murguía said.
“We applaud the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for initiating the confirmation process for Mari Carmen Aponte, and we urge the Senate act expeditiously to confirm her,” Murguía concluded.
