Alsana Offers Virtual Treatment for Eating Disorders During the Holidays

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Alsana, an eating disorder treatment provider and recovery community, has expanded its virtual treatment program, Alsana Connect, just in time for the holidays. The holiday season’s increased focus on food, family dynamics, and social pressures can trigger old behaviors, which can make it difficult for people to maintain healthy eating behaviors.

Alsana Connect, which launched in early 2020, allows people with eating disorders to access care virtually, including individual therapy, group therapy and meal support. The convenience of virtual treatment can make it easier to seek treatment early, which leads to more successful and long-lasting recoveries.

According to the American Psychological Association, close to two in five adults who experience stress during the holiday season (38%) use negative coping mechanisms to cope; 21% isolate themselves and 15% overeat or restrict their diets.

“Alsana’s virtual treatment program allows people to continue meeting with their dietitians and attend therapy throughout the busy holiday season,” said Angela Dainas, LMFT, CEDS. “The ability to access treatment from home is especially important for college students, allowing them maintain their recovery through compassionate support wherever they are physically located.”

Other benefits of virtual treatment include access to treatment seven days a week, along with an ongoing connection to a community of individuals also in recovery.

According to Alsana experts, it’s also important that family members and close friends continue offer support to loved ones in recovery throughout the December holidays and New Year.
