Andrew R. Turner, Esquire, to Receive the 2024 American Inns of Court Bankruptcy Distinguished Service Award

ALEXANDRIA, Va.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#AmericanInnsofCourtAndrew Turner of Turner Law Firm LLC in South Orange, New Jersey, has been selected to receive the prestigious 2024 American Inns of Court Bankruptcy Distinguished Service Award, which recognizes a judge or attorney specializing in bankruptcy law who has exhibited ongoing dedication to the highest standards of the legal profession, the rule of law, and personal ethics and integrity. Turner will receive the award at the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges in Seattle in September.

A member of the American Inns of Court since 1996, Turner, along with a colleague, came up with the idea of creating an alliance of Inns of Court dedicated to the practice of bankruptcy law. The goal was to promote the establishment of new Inns focused on bankruptcy law and increase exposure for the American Inns of Court’s mission. Thanks to Turner, known as the “Johnny Appleseed of Bankruptcy Inns of Court,” the Bankruptcy Inn Alliance now has 14 member Inns. “That accomplishment, alone, would be sufficient to establish Andy’s bona fides as a recipient of this award,” writes Judge Judith K. Fitzgerald (Ret.), who nominated Turner for the award and is herself a past recipient.

“But Andy was not content with assisting in the many details required to establish Inns of Court across the country,” Fitzgerald adds. In fact, Turner is the person who designed what was originally known as the Bankruptcy Inn Alliance Distinguished Service Award. He has been executive director of the Bankruptcy American Inn of Court of New Jersey, since 2003 and served two terms on the American Inns of Court Board of Trustees.

At his firm, Turner focuses on creditors’ rights, collections, corporate law, and civil litigation. One specialty area is helping businesses recover money owed to them. The firm also helps businesses with general legal advice on such topics as contracts, negotiations, asset protection, and selling a business. In addition to his work on behalf of the American Inns of Court, Turner chairs the Appellate Practice Committee of the New Jersey State Bar Association and is an active member of the Essex County Bar Association. Turner has lectured extensively for the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education.

Turner earned his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in 1988. He earned his law degree from Loyola University Chicago in 1991. He served as a law clerk for Judge Julius A. Feinberg of the Superior Court of New Jersey from 1991 to 1992.

The American Inns of Court, headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, inspires the legal community to advance the rule of law by achieving the highest level of professionalism through example, education, and mentoring. The organization’s membership includes nearly 30,000 federal, state, and local judges; lawyers; law professors; and law students in more than 360 chapters nationwide.
