Latinas Leading Tomorrow announces separation from MIDS chapter

The Board of Directors of Latinas Leading Tomorrow (LLT), a Virginia-based, National Non-Profit organization that strives to impact the lives of young Latinas and their communities through educational and mentorship programs, announced its separation from the Manor Independent School District’s (MIDS) chapter. The separation takes place after two years of LLT providing advice and guidance to the MIDS chapter in an effort to develop the LLT programs in Manor, Texas which also serves young Latinas in their community.
In their memorandum of organizational separation, the former LLT Texas Advisory Board stated that they have “noticed that LLT’s organizational direction does not encumber the needs of their members in Texas”. While they refused to elaborate in their statement, citing protection of proprietary information, they also congratulated the LLT National organization on the recent approval of its 501 (c) 3 status.
“LLT is poised to continue its mission to expand its programs to numerous cities throughout the country to include Texas in the near future,” said Julia A. Burgos, LLT Chairperson. “With the recent non-profit status approval and organizational structure changes, we are excited to offer this program in many of the Latino communities in the United States.”
LLT officially dissolved its relationship with the MISD in Manor, Texas after working closely with the Texas Advisory Board to reach common ground on the future of LLT which differed from its vision.
As stated by Julia Burgos, LLT Chairperson, “The Latinas Leading Tomorrow Board of Directors is grateful for the promising practices gleaned from this relationship and wishes the MISD schools much success in the development of its new program to serve Latinas in the district.”
