NCLR Launches Orlando “Mobilize to Vote” Campaign

Campaign to register thousands of Central Florida Latinos to vote

MIAMI—NCLR (National Council of La Raza) will officially launch its Central Florida Mobilize to Vote (M2V) campaign in Orlando thisTuesday, April 17th, at 12:30pm.  The campaign, which began field operations two weeks ago, has already begun registering local Latinos to vote in the upcoming November election.  Last month, NCLR announced the new effort to register Latino voters across the U.S. for the upcoming elections, educate potential voters on issues of importance, and help mobilize them to the polls on Election Day.

Today, Florida’s population is 23 percent Hispanic, the sixth-highest Hispanic population share nationally, and Latinos voters make up 13.1 percent of the state’s 11.2 million registered voters—the third-largest Hispanic eligible-voter population in the nation.  A critical gap exists in Latino voter registration however; it is estimated that there are almost 800,000 eligible Florida Latino voters who have not yet registered for the coming election.

Florida is a key swing state in 2012; the Latino electorate in the state will certainly play a decisive role in races across the board, from local contests to the presidential election.

While Florida is the campaign’s flagship state with operations in Orlando and Miami,  Mobilize to Vote will also have full-time presence in Las Vegas, Nevada; Denver and Pueblo, Colorado; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; all critical electoral cities in states with significant numbers of eligible, unregistered Latinos.  Through its vast Affiliate network, NCLR will also register potential voters in states such as California, Texas, and North Carolina.
