Funds Raised will help Provide Free Repairs for Low-Income Homeowners.
WHAT Mark Kohler, a member of the board of directors for Rebuilding Together Alexandria, is riding his unicycle at least 25 miles around the region in an attempt to raise more than $5,000 for the non-profit organization that preserves affordable homeownership and revitalizes communities by providing free home modifications and repairs to those in need.
More than 100 local Alexandria, Va. residents receive free repairs and renovations from Rebuilding Together Alexandria volunteers throughout the year, making their homes safer, more accessible, and more energy efficient. With support from Skanska, Booz Allen Hamilton, First Baptist Church, Sears, and Wells Fargo, 1,000+ volunteers restore and upgrade homes for low-income veterans, disabled, and elderly residents.
WHY With the help of funders and volunteers, Rebuilding Together Alexandria works to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize the Alexandria community by providing free home repairs and modifications. These upgrades are important since most of Rebuilding Together Alexandria’s clients live near the poverty level – earning less than $26,000 a year – making it difficult for them to pay for home maintenance and much needed medicine or food. Rebuilding Together Alexandria has worked on more than 1,540 projects in Alexandria since its inception more than 25 years ago, improving the lives of thousands.
