MALDEF Honors Community Champions

Los Angeles – The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), the nation’s leading Latino legal organization, will host its 33rd Annual Los Angeles Awards Dinner on Tuesday, October 30th at 6:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. For almost 40 years, MALDEF has worked to promote and protect the rights of over 45 million Latinos living in the United States. MALDEF is at the forefront of litigation and legislation to protect the rights of immigrants and reform our immigration laws.

More than 600 guests will gather for a high profile evening to highlight MALDEF’s work in the community and recognize individuals, corporations and law firms who have been instrumental in advancing justice for Latinos. 

The MALDEF Dinner, emceed by actor Tony Plana (currently of ABC’s Ugly Betty), is chaired by the McDonald’s Corporation and the  cDonald’s Hispanic Owner/Operator Association.

Honorees: Tim McCallion, West Region President of Verizon Corporation, Corporate Social Responsibility Award; Dionicio Morales, Founder of Mexican American Opportunity Foundation, Community Service Award; Cruz Reynoso, Former Associate Justice of California Supreme Court and Presidential Medal of Freedom Recipient, Valerie Kantor Award; and Susana Zamorano and Raul Borbon, MALDEF Parent Activists, Leadership Award.

 Founded in 1968, MALDEF, the nation’s leading Latino legal organization, promotes and protects the rights of Latinos through litigation, advocacy, community education and outreach, leadership development, and higher education.
