LEDC Executive Director Manny Hidalgo Named 2009 EXCEL Award Recipient

Hidalgo, one of 3 EXCEL awardees selected by DC-based Center for Nonprofit Advancement, recognized for outstanding nonprofit chief executive leadership

WASHINGTON – The Center for Nonprofit Advancement will award Latino Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) Executive Director Manny Hidalgo this morning the 2009 Gelman, Rosenberg, and Freedman EXCEL Award for outstanding nonprofit chief executive leadership in the Washington metropolitan area.

Hidalgo will receive his award today at the Center for Nonprofit Advancement’s 30th Anniversary Meeting and Breakfast at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. The award recognizes Hidalgo’s excellence in the areas of innovation, motivation, community building, ethical integrity and strategic leadership.

I’m honored to share this award with my staff and Board,” Hidalgo said. “Our collective leadership has helped LEDC energetically tackle the fluid challenges facing low to moderate-income communities in the DC metro area within this fragile economy.”

Hidalgo will receive a $5,000 professional development account to use in his role as LEDC’s executive director. In addition, LEDC will receive a $2,000 grant to provide professional development opportunities for its staff.

“Manny has transformed the Latino Economic Development Corporation into a strong player in Latino and other cultural communities,” said Center Deputy Executive Director Susan Sanow. “Manny is passionate about picking the right staff, gives them the room to learn, shine and laugh, and knows what’s important in life, stressing that dedication to work and to home are equally important.”
