El Paso Home to Ugliest Men, Pageant Queens

While El Paso’s

men continue making national headlines for being voted the ugliest in the

country, women at The University of Texas at El Paso have earned their way to the nation’s

top beauty pageant, Miss USA 2010.

UTEP student Rosanne Aguilar, 23, was

crowned Miss New Mexico 2010 in Ruidoso, on Saturday. She will compete in the Miss

USA pageant alongside UTEP volleyball player Kelsey Elizabeth Moore, 19,

who was crowned Miss Texas 2010

in September.

“I think it is a great honor for both of us to represent UTEP on such a big

stage. It’s pretty awesome,” Aguilar said.

Aguilar is a senior, majoring in biology who aspires to become a pediatric

oncologist. The Las Cruces

native came in as the runner-up during the Miss New Mexico 2009 pageant.

“Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been

watching beauty pageants, and I always dreamed of winning,” said Aguilar.

Although

the two contestants do not know each other well, they have forged a mutual

respect since meeting each other recently.

“Hopefully

one of us wins,” Moore, a sophomore majoring in general studies, said.

And

if one wins and the other is first runner-up, that would be even better.

“That

would be great,” Moore

said.

Aguilar and Moore will participate in

the Miss USA pageant April 18, 2010,

in Las Vegas,

Nevada.  The winner will

represent the United States

in Miss Universe 2010.
