Montgomery County Executive Hispanic Gala announces “Educator of the Year” Awardee

The 2017 Steering Committee of the Montgomery County Executive Hispanic Gala (MCEHG) announces that Evelyn González-Mills, Counselor and Professor at Montgomery College will be the recipient of the “Educator of the Year” Award to be presented during the gala celebration on September 7, 2017 to take place at The Fillmore Silver Spring.

Evelyn González-Mills has been a Counselor and Professor at Montgomery College for 18 years, during this tenure she has served as Advisor to the Latino Student Union, LSU. She also teaches the International Student Seminar and works closely with a diverse student population to help them achieve their personal, educational, and career goals.

In 2013, she was selected to participate in the Smithsonian Faculty Fellowship. That same year, she was awarded Montgomery College’s Outstanding Faculty Service Award.

For over three decades, she has been dedicated to working with youth and families, particularly Latino youth, helping them achieve their educational goal of graduating from high school and college.

Before joining Montgomery College, González-Mills worked as a counselor at Bell Multicultural High School and at the Latin American Youth Center. As the Advisor to the Latino Student Union at Montgomery College, she encourages students to play a leadership role at the school and to get involved with local and international issues.

The 2017 “Advocate of the Year” Award will be presented to Teresa Rios Wright, Montgomery County Public Schools Instructional Specialist.

The Montgomery County Executive Hispanic Gala is a 100% volunteer-run event and 501c(3) organization committed to assisting Latino youth and qualifying students from our diverse communities achieve a high level of education. Funds raised support the Maryland Hispanic Achievement Scholarship Program which provides financial assistance to scholars enrolled in Maryland higher learning institutions.
