9th Annual National LATINA Symposium Celebrates Women Empowerment!

Congressman Silvestre Reyes to be honored with the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

 

Washington, DC [CapitalWirePR] August 21, 2012 – The Anna Maria Arias Foundation in partnership with LATINA Style Inc., the premier company addressing the needs of Latina professionals, civic leaders, entrepreneurs, college students and members of the Armed Services, are proud to present the 9th Annual National LATINA Symposium (NLS) including the 1st LATINA Style Hero Initiative (LSHI) program in Washington, DC.

The NLS will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 7:30 am – 3:00 pm continuing into the LSHI program from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm, at the Hilton Crystal City Hotel (2399 Jefferson Davis Hwy. Arlington, VA  22202).

This renowned conference provides a national platform for Latina professionals, both civilian and active service to address the most pressing issues affecting the Hispanic woman in the United States.

The Conference opens with a ceremonial breakfast, followed by a series of workshops for participants to learn about such issues as: advancement in the workplace, successful leadership, applying military skills to everyday life and business, and professional development. These groundbreaking workshops will feature the nation’s prominent military and civilian Latina leaders.

Highlighting the event is the Distinguished Military Service Award Luncheon, co-hosted with the Department of Defense. LATINA Style is proud to present the only national awards program honoring Latina military and civilian personnel whose service have enhanced the role of Latinas in their organizations.  Congressman Silvestre Reyes of the 16th district in Texas will be presented the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Congressman Reyes has dedicated four decades to public service starting in 1966 when he entered the Army. He is a combat veteran, having fought in the Vietnam War as a helicopter crew chief.  Since coming to Congress, The Honorable Reyes has been a strong advocate for the men and women of America’s Armed Forces, cofounding the Congressional USO Caucus to support troops and their families.

Congressman Reyes has been a member of the House Armed Services Committee and he was a senior Member of the Subcommittee on Readiness which oversees military readiness, training, logistics and maintenance, military construction, family housing, and the base closure process.

Congressman Reyes is Co-Chair of the House Congressional Southwest Border Caucus and Co-Chair of the House Army Caucus. He and his wife, Carolina, have been married for more than 40 years and have three children: Monica, Rebecca and Silvestre, Jr. They are also the proud grandparents of Amelia, Mateo, Julian, and Orlando.

A new addition to this year’s program is the LATINA Style HERO Initiative, a four city program that assist military personnel and veterans transition into Corporate America and the civilian workplace. Created in the spirit of empowerment for our nation’s finest, the Initiative honors and celebrates past and present servicewomen and servicemen’s accomplishments and strives to provide resources for their success.

The LATINA Style HERO Initiative program will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Chesapeake Hall of the Hilton Crystal City Hotel.
