WASHINGTON — Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said Tuesday said the immigration bill does not have the 60 votes it needs to pass in the Senate.
Asked in an interview with Fox News if the bill approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee had 60 votes, Rubio replied: “No, and I think even the Democrats would concede that.”
But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said in an interview last week with the Nevada radio program To the Point, «I think we have 60 votes.»
Sens. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., and John McCain, R-Ariz., two other senators in the Senate’s Gang of Eight, have said they hope to pass their proposal with 70 Senate votes.
