The Eddie is the premier event in the sport of surfing—the “Super Bowl of Surfing”—which honors the late Eddie Aikau, a famed Hawaiian lifeguard and surfer who was lost at sea while attempting to rescue the crew of a Polynesian voyaging canoe. The 39th annual Eddie Big Wave Invitational will take place at Waimea Bay on the North Shore of Oahu and will bring together the world’s best surfers to compete and bring focus to Hawaiian culture. In conjunction with the Eddie Aikau Foundation, the competition fosters community philanthropy through advancing education, community service and assisting the preservation and perpetuation of Hawaiian history and culture.
