Leading children’s mental health provider expands footprint in North Carolina, ensuring continued access to behavioral health services for families that need it most.
NASHVILLE, Tenn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Acute Behavioral Health (ABH), a behavioral health provider for young people that provides innovative evidence-based care, today announced its completed acquisition of Oakwood Treatment Center (Oakwood) in Kinston, N.C. Oakwood, a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF), had previously been part of the Nova Behavioral Health network of treatment programs for young people and their families, will continue to serve the community under a new name and ownership.
“It’s a privilege to be able to provide continuity of care and behavioral health services for youth challenged with severe emotional and psychiatric needs through Oakwood Treatment Center,” said Mike McCulla, CEO, Acute Behavioral Health. “Oakwood’s treatment center design, and team culture and values align with our mission and the ability to provide intensive treatment services for young people with a focus on lowering levels of care as quickly as clinically possible and ultimately, reunify them back into a safe home environment.”
Oakwood provides out-of-home treatment services for boys and girls ages 12-17 years old who are assessed as needing more intensive services and referred by mental health and social service providers. Throughout the course of treatment, boys and girls live in separate quarters and are placed in a highly supervised living environment. Treatment is overseen by a psychiatrist, intensive therapy services are provided by licensed clinicians, 24/7 nursing is provided, and all young people are engaged in school grade-level appropriate programming.
ABH is committed to making a measurable difference in the lives of young people in need and empower them with tools for a healthy and stable life. Its continued growth through Oakwood and plans to expand the facility’s continuum of services in the years ahead, is a means of furthering its mission to preserve a young person’s relationship with their family and community.
