Archive and Its Brand Partners Put the Spotlight on Buying Preloved Clothing During “Second Hand September”

DVF, Ulla Johnson and M.M.LaFleur Among the Brands Highlighting Special Resale Offerings in September to Encourage Sustainable Shopping

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Archive, which powers customized resale at scale for global brands, today announced that it is joining many of its brand partners in participating in Second Hand September. DVF, Ulla Johnson and M.M.LaFleur are among the brands whose resale programs are powered by Archive that are joining in the September campaign by launching special resale promotions that will run during the month. Launched in 2019, the Second Hand September campaign is designed to inspire shoppers to lessen their impact on the planet by buying only secondhand items for 30 days.

“Since September marks both New York Fashion Week and back-to-school, most fashion brands focus on newness during the month,” said Emily Gittins, CEO and Co-founder of Archive. “That makes September the perfect time for forward-thinking brands to establish a new narrative by spotlighting their resale offerings. We’re thrilled to join so many of our brand partners in supporting the Second Hand September campaign to encourage customers to buy preloved and highlight the wide variety of ways people can enjoy shopping secondhand today.”

Each participating brand partner is offering its own take on Second Hand September to encourage consumers to extend the lifespan of their pieces through resale. In New York City, DVF will provide customers with the opportunity to shop secondhand directly in-store by featuring a selection of preloved pieces at the brand’s iconic Meatpacking location. The brand launched its ReWrap resale platform in partnership with Archive earlier this year.

Ulla Johnson will feature curated racks of PreLoved pieces specially selected from the brand’s own inventory at its New York and Los Angeles stores. The collections will be available to shop throughout the entire month of September. M.M.LaFleur and Sarah Flint will offer special listing promotions to encourage customers to upload items to their respective resale sites. Sarah Flint will also feature a selection of gently used pieces in-store.

Other participating Archive brand partners include Faherty, ba&sh, Sandro, Ariat, Hanna Andersson, HOBO and Marimekko, which just marked its Pre-loved resale program’s first anniversary with an in-store secondhand shopping event. Many of the participating brands will also post resale shopping tips and special content on social channels under the hashtag #SecondHandSeptember.

Second Hand September underscores the growing popularity of fashion resale, which is fueling the growth of Archive’s business globally. So far in 2023, Archive has launched resale programs for 18 new brand partners, bringing its client roster to more than 40 brands. The company has doubled its headcount over the past 12 months and bolstered its leadership team by appointing Stripe and Yelp veteran Toby Waite to the newly created role of VP of Engineering. In addition, Archive recently expanded into the UK for the first time and now powers resale programs for partners in seven countries.

Archive is leading the evolution of resale by powering a wide range of customizable business models that make it easy for brands to launch and scale fully branded resale channels in any country. The company is introducing personalization and clienteling to the resale experience through features that brands can easily switch on as they grow their recommerce programs.
