Wimberly Brings Appellate and Congressional Investigation Experience, Expands Firm’s Antitrust Capabilities
WASHINGTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Axinn, Veltrop & Harkrider LLP announced today that Mary Helen Wimberly, a veteran litigator with nearly a decade of high-level government experience at the U.S. Department of Justice, has joined its Antitrust practice as a partner in the Washington, D.C. office.
“A DOJ veteran and seasoned appellate lawyer with congressional experience in antitrust investigations, Mary Helen is a significant addition to our market-leading Antitrust practice,” said Mike Keeley, chair of Axinn’s Antitrust practice. “Mary Helen brings a perspective that will be invaluable to our clients across the full range of important antitrust matters—from merger challenges to civil conduct cases to cartel investigations.”
“Mary Helen’s arrival reflects Axinn’s commitment to growing our globally recognized Antitrust practice and providing the best, most comprehensive service for our clients—a critical force behind our strategic growth trajectory,” said Axinn’s managing partner Jeny Maier. “Her practice complements and builds upon our existing strengths across antitrust, litigation, and government investigations, and I am thrilled to welcome her to the firm.”
Mary Helen joins Axinn from the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, where she served as the case lead in major civil and criminal enforcement matters and worked on cases from trial through appeal. She recently spent two years in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General, helping to supervise litigation, operations, and policy work across the DOJ. Prior to that, Mary Helen served as a House Judiciary Committee staff member, supporting the subcommittee with jurisdiction over matters of antitrust, commercial, and administrative law. Mary Helen has written over 100 briefs, argued more than a dozen appeals, and was honored with the Assistant Attorney General’s Individual Award of Distinction for her writing style, research methods, and clear thinking, as well as her leadership of complex matters.
“Axinn has established a global reputation for its prominent Antitrust practice, and I couldn’t be more excited to join the team,” said Mary Helen. “I look forward to bringing my experience in government to Axinn’s unparalleled platform, counseling the firm’s clients on competition matters, and representing them vigorously in litigation and investigations.”
Before joining the Department of Justice in 2017, Mary Helen was an associate and counsel in the Supreme Court and Appellate practice of Hogan Lovells US LLP. She began her career by clerking for then-Chief Judge Patricia C. Fawsett of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida and for Judge Ronald Lee Gilman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Mary Helen earned her J.D. from Vanderbilt University Law School and her B.A. from Duke University.
