(Langley Park, MD) CASA in Action, Maryland’s largest electoral organization of Latinos and immigrants, endorsed Delegate Ana Sol Gutierrez in her campaign for U.S. Congress for the 8th Congressional District.
A number of extraordinarily talented candidates have thrown their hats into the race for the 8th, including two —Senator Jamie Raskin and Delegate Kumar Barve— with an extensive history of support for immigrants in the legislature.
According to CASA in Action members they have chosen to endorse Delegate Ana Sol Gutierrez for her long history of progressive public service (first Latina elected to the Montgomery County School Board in 1990; first Latina elected to the Maryland House in 2002) and the opportunity her campaign presents to galvanize a Latino electorate hungry to see themselves reflected in the Maryland delegation to Congress.
“Ana has dedicated her life to the fight for justice for all families,” said Gustavo Torres, President of CASA in Action.
“Her candidacy represents promise for young aspiring Latinos everywhere that, despite the odds, one day they can be the one taking key votes on issues of critical importance from immigration to healthcare, to jobs,” he added.
With more than 77,000 members, CASA in Action mobilizes voters to get out on election day in support of the candidates who will stand up for the progressive priorities of its members.
By the primary election, they said, its canvassers will place multiple live phone calls and house visits to thousands of Latino voters and complete an aggressive mail and digital communications program.
