HYATTSVILLE, MD – Congressional Latino leaders are taking action against Trump’s disparaging remarks from his June 16 press conference denouncing Mexican and Latin American immigrants.
On Thursday, July 9, Delegate and Chair of the Maryland Legislative Latino Caucus, Joseline Peña-Melnyk will join other concerned elected officials and community leaders speaking out against Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump.
Delegate Joseline Peña-Melnyk, long time advocate for the Latino community, is protesting Trump’s claims that those who cross into our borders are “bringing drugs… bringing crime. They’re rapists.”
Joining U.S. Representative Franklin Garcia and U.S. Senators Paul Strauss and Michael D. Brown, the Delegate will be leading a demonstration outside the Old U.S. Post Office Building, the site for Mr. Trump’s luxury hotel project.
“As a Latino and as an elected official, I am hurt by Mr. Trump’s remarks in his announcement speech. His comments on immigration and crime are not only offensive and dangerous to our community, but also an embarrassment to politics. I am proud to stand up and denounce Mr. Trump in DC with my friends, family, and colleagues.”
The protest is slated for 1:30 PM at 1100 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington DC, at 12th Street, Federal Triangle Metro and we welcome all advocates and eager volunteers to have your voice be heard. This is a unifying moment for the Latino community.
