They came from distant places
From the south, east and west
From mountains, villages and cities
Leaving behind precious homelands
Love, friends and grandfathers.
On their shoulders they carried their dreams
Holding hands with women and children
Guided by the voice of the wind
The burning sand of the desert
The thunder of the sea.
They ran away from war and hunger
From oppression and misery
From solitude and despair
Searching for the land of gold
And a time of peace.
Many reached strange cities
Conquered hope
Began a new life
Grew and prospered
Found lost dreams.
Some continued the journey
Beyond the horizon.

En el “Día Mundial del Refugiado”

Venían de lugares lejanos
del sur, del este, del oeste
de montañas, villas y ciudades
dejando atrás tierras queridas
amor, amigos, abuelos.
Venían con ilusiones al hombro
de la mano de mujeres y niños
guiados por las voces del viento
la ardiente arena del desierto
y los rugidos del mar.
Huían de la guerra y el hambre
de la opresión y la miseria
de la soledad y el desconsuelo
en busca de la tierra del oro
y un tiempo de paz.
Muchos llegaron a ciudades extrañas
conquistaron la esperanza
iniciaron nueva vida
crecieron y prosperaron
encontraron ilusiones perdidas.
Otros continuaron la marcha
Más allá del horizonte.
