The Future CASA Baltimore Regional Education & Employment Center at the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Building.

CASA, members and partners all celebrated just recently as they broke ground on the future home in Baltimore. They will be transforming the historic Belnord Theatre in southeast Baltimore into a 16,000 square-foot regional education & employment center.

CASA has been in Baltimore since 2002, and their current space is no longer adequate to meet the needs of the community.

“Through our new regional center, services will be significantly expanded, allowing CASA to serve an additional 7,000 area immigrant and working-class residents per year – for a total of 11,000 annually”, said Gustavo Torres, Executive Director.

Enhanced programs will include: vocational training, workforce development, after-school and youth leadership development, ESOL, financial literacy, citizenship, and legal services.

“The Center will also help advance our vision for Baltimore: a city with an inclusive economy, vibrant youth leadership, and institutions that promote racial justice”, he added.

Torres explained that the total cost is $14 million and thanks to the support of major private funders, Baltimore City, the State of Maryland, and Baltimore County, they have raised $13 million to date.

Casa have just $1 million to go, and they need the help of the community to get over the finish line.

“Be a part of history -help CASA build a bright future for Baltimore by supporting our fundraising campaign. You can help us meet our goal by purchasing a piece of the theater. Through our Tiles for Tomorrow campaign, you can engrave an interior tile that will be displayed in the main room, or a front entrance sidewalk paver, or dedicate a memorial bench”, Torres continued. Click here for more details and to purchase your tile!

“We are so proud to be a part of the beautiful, multicultural, and thriving community of southeast Baltimore. Thank you to all of our partners, supporters, and members who helped make this dream possible. And thank YOU for helping us reach our goal”, Torres pointed out.
