Washington, DC [CapitalWirePR] June 27, 2013 – The Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) announced the 26th Annual Hispanic Heritage Awards would take place on September 5, 2013, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The 2013 Hispanic Heritage Honorees will be announced in July. The Awards will once again celebrate Hispanic cultural pride, contributions, and accomplishments. (Sponsorship opportunities are still available.)

The Hispanic Heritage Awards were established in 1987 by President Ronald Reagan to commemorate the creation of Hispanic Heritage Month. Since that time, the Hispanic Heritage Awards have been considered the highest honor for Hispanics by Hispanics. Categories for the 2013 Awards will include Arts, Vision, Legend, Sports, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), Design, Leadership, Education and Inspira. The Awards are unique in that celebrities take the stage along with educators, innovators, community and business leaders, elected officials, and physicians, among others. The Awards are supported by nearly 40 national Hispanic-serving institutions who co-host the program.
Past Honorees, presenters and performers have included Alejandro Sanz, Juanes, Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, Placido Domingo, Juan Luis Guerra, US Reps Ileana Ros Lehtinen and Xavier Becerra, Oscar de la Hoya, Mana, Rosario Dawson, Pitbull, Los Tigres Del Norte, America Ferrera, Olga Tañon, and Rita Moreno, to name a few. Performers and presenters will be announced later this summer.
The Awards serve as a launch of HHF’s year-round award-winning programs.
