Washington, DC – Immigrants, supporters and 32BJ SEIU Vice President Jaime Contreras will testify this morning at a D.C. City Council hearing on legislation that would allow all eligible District residents the right to obtain a driver’s license or D.C. identification card, regardless of citizenship or immigration status. The group will tout the wide-reaching benefits of the bill and encourage city leaders to ensure that final legislation is the nation’s strongest, by making identical licenses available to all D.C. residents.
Council members Jim Graham and David Grosso will join the immigrant coalition at a rally this morning before the hearing.
With more than 125,000 members in nine states, including 17,000 in the D.C. Metropolitan Area, 32BJ SEIU is the largest property service workers union in the country. 32BJ is one of the largest unions in the country representing immigrant workers who come from over 60 different countries.
