HYATTSVILLE, MD – Monday night capped off a successful legislative session for Maryland State Delegate Joseline Peña-Melnyk, and today she’s out of the blocks and running full speed ahead to represent Maryland’s 4th District in the U.S. Congress.
It was a whirlwind session and I got a lot done — eight bills that I sponsored passed both houses of the Legislature and one, Kari’s Law, was signed into law Tuesday by Governor Hogan. Now, I’m focused like a laser on building a strong campaign team and getting my message out to the people.
Kari’s Law will improve emergency response in Maryland by requiring multi-line telephone systems to provide direct access to the 9-1-1 emergency system. The law is named after Kari Hunt Dunn, who was murdered in a Texas hotel room in 2013. Kari’s daughter tried repeatedly to call for help, but did not know to dial an extra «9» to obtain an outside line, followed by 9-1-1.
In addition to being tax filing day, today is also the day campaign reports must be filed with the Federal Election Commission. Joseline Peña-Melnyk for Congress reported receiving over $42,000 in contributions for the two week period from March 17th, when her campaign committee was established, to the report ending period on March 31st.
