I am running for the at-large seat on the Board of Education! The primary is June 26, 2018 and I am asking for your vote and support.
I am passionate about education and deeply committed to our wonderful community. I have been involved in education my entire career. I have taught English language learners and currently work with first-generation college students to help them make their college dream a reality. I have a Master’s degree in Education and am the parent of two children in MCPS.
Montgomery County has a long and proud history of investing in education. However, I think we need to be strategic with our resources in order to keep pace with change. Our student population is changing, the opportunity to harness technology in our schools is changing, and the skills needed to be ready for the jobs of the future are changing.
I am eager to put my experience in education and community engagement to work to ensure that our school system continues to provide ALL students with an excellent education and the skills to thrive. Together we can make the promise of opportunity for all a reality, today and in the future.

Every voter gets to cast a vote in each Board of Education race, so I will need to reach hundreds of thousands of eligible voters to cross the finish line. To do that, I need your help. Please make a contribution–any amount is appreciated–so I can get the word out. You can donate online at www.karlasilvestre.com/donate.
Finally, please SAVE THE DATE for my campaign kick-off event on Saturday, April 28 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Mi Rancho in Silver Spring (8701 Ramsey Ave. Silver Spring, MD 20910).
Montgomery County Education Association; Montgomery County Public Schools Retiree Association; County Executive Ike Leggett; Councilmember Nancy Navarro; and Shirley Brandman, former President, Board of Education.
