LATINO Magazine will present the 2012 NO MAS HAMBRE Summit

Community leaders, antihunger activists, and government officials gather in Washington, DC to address hunger in the Latino community

 

Austin, TX [CapitalWirePR] November 28, 2012 – LATINO Magazine will present the 2012 NO MAS HAMBRE Summit in Washington, DC on Friday, December 7, 2012 at the Capital Hilton, 1001 16th St. NW. The event is free and open to the public and will include community leaders, elected officials, anti-hunger advocates, and media representatives. «Latinos are twice as likely as other Americans to hungry,» said Alfredo Estrada, the editor of LATINO Magazine. «Hunger is the greatest challenge facing our community, although many of us simply aren’t aware of it. If we want to end hunger, we need to get Latinos actively engaged.»

NO MAS HAMBRE is a nonprofit initiative launched by LATINO Magazine and its partners including AARP Foundation, Telemundo, Sodexo, Office of MInority Health, Servicemaster, Alliance to End Hunger, USDA, Feeding America and others to help raise awareness of hunger in the Latino community. Throughout the year, regional forums have been held around the country leading up to the second annual NO MAS HAMBRE Summit.

The Summit will cover topics such as food insecurity among Latino elderly, SNAP outreach, nutrition and wellness, childhood obesity and other issues. The audience will participate in roundtable discussions with expert panelists and speakers, including:

The 2012 NO MAS HAMBRE Summit on December 7 at the Capital Hilton begins with a  registration breakfast buffet  at 8 AM. The agenda begins at 9 AM and a complimentary lunch will be served at 12-1 PM. The Summit will end promptly at 2:30 PM. Attendance is free.
