Sec rep to cover activities in Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee,Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina
WASHINGTON – Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis today announced the appointment of Millie Herrera as her regional representative n Florida,Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina. Herrera is based in Miami, Fla.
“I am delighted to welcome Millie to the Labor Department team,” said Secretary Solis. “Her years of public and community experience reflect her ability to work cooperatively and effectively with labor, business and government, and her commitment to educating workers about their rights. Her knowledge and skills will be valuable in our efforts on behalf of America’s working people.”
Within the U.S. Department of Labor, secretary’s representatives, also known as “sec reps,” serve as liaisons to state and local government officials and community stakeholders, and are responsible for amplifying key programs and initiatives of the department.
Before joining the Department of Labor, Herrera founded The Miami Group, which provides business and strategic marketing consulting services to domestic and international companies as well as nonprofit organizations. Previously, she was the product and marketing manager at Amadeus North America in Miami. She also has served in management positions with a variety of technology companies.
Herrera has advocated for the rights of women, children, workers and immigrants for more than 15 years. She has been a volunteer guardian ad litem inMiami-Dade County since 2003. Additionally, she is a 2004 fellow of the National Hispana Leadership Institute program held at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Herrera received a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from Southern Illinois University and a master’s degree in business administration from Florida International University, Miami.
