The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund released its 2013 Presidential Appointments Primer. This publication provides civic leaders with updated information about how to secure a position through the appointments process, as well as information about the progress being made by a growing contingent of Latino federal officials.
“There is a wealth of talent and experience within the nation’s Latino community today,” stated NALEO Educational Fund Executive Director Arturo Vargas. “In addition to appointing at least two Latinos to cabinet-level positions, we call on the President to ensure that appointments at all levels of the federal government reflect the unique expertise of Latino leaders and the diversity of the country.”
Throughout their tenure, Presidential administrations typically fill more than 8,000 public service leadership and high-level support positions, including governing spots on advisory boards, commissions, and other bodies within the federal government. More information about the range of positions filled by Presidential appointment can be found by consulting the Plum Book athttp://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/GPO-PLUMBOOK-2012/content-detail.html.
