Today, the 57th Presidential Inauguration began with Americans rolling up their sleeves and serving their communities.  In all 50 states, Americans participated in the National Day of service. More than 13,000 people attended the day’s marquee event, the Service Summit on the National Mall.  Thousands of Americans took part in events in all 50 states., from mentoring in Boston to cleaning classrooms in Fort Lauderdale, from teaching digital literacy in Baltimore to cleaning classrooms in Fargo. In Washington, D.C.,  the First and Second Families, as well as members of the Cabinet, pitched in on community service projects.
Most importantly, Americans have already pledged almost 1,000,000 hours to ongoing service in their communities, with citizens still pledging throughout the country.
