NPRC Defends Senator Menendez From Unproven Allegations

Washington, DC [CapitalWirePR] February 6, 2013 – The National Puerto Rican Coalition (NPRC) today strongly defended New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez from media outlets that are using baseless allegation to tarnish the reputation of a well-respected public official.
“We find it extremely disturbing that these unverified and highly destructive allegations are suddenly being circulated after Senator Menendez became the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the United States Senate” said Rafael A. Fantauzzi, President& CEO of the National Puerto Rican Coalition. «Senator Menendez deserves the benefit of the doubt. It is important for us to remind ourselves that in the United States of America, you are innocent until proven guilty and not the other way around. Condemning a well-respected leader based on hearsay and faceless accusers is simply irresponsible.”
Then Congressman Robert Menendez was appointed in January 2006 to fill the New Jersey U.S. Senate seat vacated by Jon Corzine. He was elected to a full six year term in 2006 and was re-elected in 2012.
“Let’s not forget the fact that Senator Bob Menendez has built a stellar record of integrity throughout his career in public service in New Jersey, and as a member of Congress. He is one of the most important Hispanic role models in this country and he deserves better,” Fantauzzi added.
“We urge the media and other special interest groups to sit back and wait for the government of the Dominican Republic, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the United States Congress to conduct a thorough investigation, before we judge this outstanding public servant,” Fantauzzi concluded.
The National Puerto Rican Coalition, Inc. (NPRC) is the premier non-profit non-partisan Hispanic organization representing the voice of the Puerto Rican community. NPRC is committed to enhancing the social and economic well being of Puerto Ricans through policy development, research, advocacy, civic engagement, and education.
