University president, elected leaders and high school marching band to join more than one thousand students to march and RALLY for the Maryland DREAM Act this Saturday. The procession to leave from CASA de Maryland Multicultural Center to University of Maryland College Park to remind people to REGISTER to VOTE and vote FOR Question 4.

(Langley Park, MD) – This Saturday, October 6, at noon thousand DREAMers will be joined by University of Maryland University College President Javier Miyares, elected officials, and spirit boosters including the Crosslands High School Dance Company and Marching Band, will gather for a press conference and rally in Langley Park then march through the streets of Prince George’s County to remind people to register to vote and vote FOR Question 4!

Wearing fluttering graduation gowns and caps, the march seeks to remind Prince George’s and Montgomery County voters that they will have an opportunity on November 6 to vote for many students living in their local communities.  A rally closing out the march at the University of Maryland College Park will feature DREAMers sharing their personal stories and campus leaders.

The third and final march leading up to the election follows on the heels of a July 19th march in the City of Baltimore and an August 5th march in Silver Spring.  The marches join a cluster of hundreds of public presentations before churches and community groups and an aggressive voter registration and Get-Out-The-Vote campaign.

The campaign to support Question 4 includes organizations such as the NAACP, teachers unions and other prominent labor organizations, and multiple faith traditions.  College Park, the flagship campus of the University System of Maryland, is a long-term supporter of the Maryland DREAM Act and the University System of Maryland’s Councils of Presidents, Faculty, and Students have all taken formal positions in support of the Maryland DREAM Act.

«Growing up in our beautiful state with its wonderful people I have come to call myself a true Marylander,” said Claudia Quiñones, a student leader from CASA de Maryland’s Youth Committee. «I want to have the opportunity to give back to this state that I have called home.»
