Dino Rizzo, the executive director of ARC (Association of Related Churches) and founder of Servolution, announces an interview with DevDiscourse focused on starting a Servolution.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Servolution’s founder, Pastor Dino Rizzo, a 35-year ministry veteran and executive director of ARC (Association of Related Churches), was recently featured in an article on DevDiscourse, a media platform designed for development stakeholders around the world.
The interview with DevDiscourse focused on the Servolution movement, which he founded with his wife, DeLynn. He has a passion for outreach and mission work, which is evident in his work with churches around the world and even in his teachings, such as through his book, «Serve Your City.»
Rizzo explains that he wasn’t raised in a church and was reached through outreach, a fact that has led to him being hyper-focused on reaching others and taking care of those who are hurt. He described the experience for him to DevDiscourse:
«A church did a serve — what you do, what you guys are all about. They just did a creative way to reach out to people. It caught my eye; it caught my interest. It made me lean in. Because God is searching for everyone, and we’re really just coming alongside His search party and just trying to be the hands and feet of Jesus.»
According to Pastor Dino Rizzo, being able to serve others wholeheartedly requires people to get out of what he calls «living in Me-Ville,» which is «the most miserable neighborhood to live in.» The key, he said, is moving from that Me-Ville to We-Ville, where you’re thinking about others before you’re thinking about yourself. But, it’s not about completely disregarding yourself, he said. Rizzo acknowledges that a big part of serving others is focusing on yourself- the uniqueness, talents, blessings, gifts, resources, and more that you can offer others.
«I always tell people, ‘The first person to get over is yourself. You got to get over yourself,'» Dino Rizzo said. «Then, it’s amazing when you are able to step out of that.»
Many people believe that in order to serve others, they have to engage in some big undertaking — whether it be donating a lot of money or leading a huge project that completely transforms a neighborhood, for instance.
The motto of Servolution completely contradicts that, though: «One simple act of kindness can change someone’s life forever.» It’s that focus on simple acts of kindness that makes serving others not only so simple but so rewarding.
It’s a major reason why Rizzo said he was inspired to start Servolution in the first place, help organize one-day events such as Serve Day, and help others give back to their communities through ARC (Association of Related Churches).
