The importance of political perspective

Every day, PSL members are in the streets organizing against the injustices of capitalism. But we know that activism alone is not enough to bring about the end of this system — this day-to-day fight needs to be combined with a cutting-edge analysis and strategic outlook about the key factors shaping politics. For this reason, a top priority of the PSL in 2022 was to expose the campaign by the right wing to roll back democratic rights and eliminate the democratic form of government itself.

We used every tool at our disposal to raise the alert about this profound danger — print media, video, social media, in-person outreach, educational events and one-on-one meetings. Our ability to do this work depends on the support of people like you who understand the importance of socialist political perspective.

PSL members and friends with new copies of «The Supreme Court Versus Democracy».
As the year went on, more and more mainstream outlets and commentators caught on, and the future of democracy became a central part of the national political conversation. We were among the first on the left to put forward an in-depth historical analysis of the causes and trajectory of this phenomenon — and how the struggle for democratic rights can open the door for the socialist transformation of society. This perspective was laid out in the new book by Brian Becker «The Supreme Court Versus Democracy,» which the PSL is distributing across the country. PSL branches have held educational events at our centers in cities and towns across the country and spoken out using a wide range of media, with this new book as the cornerstone of our efforts.

Of all the cases before the Supreme Court, one stood out as representing a particularly dire threat to the concept of «one person, one vote» — Moore v. Harper. PSL members in Washington, D.C. protested outside the Supreme Court as it heard this effort to put the outcome of presidential elections in the hands of right wing-dominated state legislatures.

To win the fight against the tiny elite that dominates society, we need to have political sophistication and an understanding of how the system of government evolves. Support the PSL as we continue our work to promote a deep analysis that points to key opportunities for the people’s movements.
