Elected officials and diverse advocates for the Maryland DREAM Act will hold two major events tomorrow, Thursday October 25th, to continue to build support for the Maryland DREAM Act, with a press conference at Prince George’s Community College at 11:30 a.m. with Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker and State Senator Victor Ramirez.
Also, a rally it’s going to take place at the University of Maryland, College Park at 5 p.m. featuring over one hundred students and prominent elected officials including Senator Ben Cardin (D-MD), Delegate Heather Mizeur, Delegate Joseline Peña-Melnyk, and Delegate Ana Sol Gutierrez, Dr. Shorter-Gooden.

A recent Washington Post poll found 59% of voters support the Maryland DREAM Act, with only 35% opposed, and advocates for the law are building on this strong momentum with a week of coordinated press events and rallies for Question 4. In addition to Thursday’s events, a number of African immigrants and supporters of the Maryland DREAM Act will march to an early voting location in Silver Spring together on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Congressman Cummings spoke out yesterday in support of the law. Maryland IAF, a congregation-based community organizing group, held a major «DREAM Assembly» last night at Southern Asian Seventh-day Adventist Church in Silver Spring with 800 supporters in attendance.
Educating Maryland Kids, a coalition of groups including SEIU, the Maryland State Education Association, the Maryland Catholic Conference, Maryland IAF, and CASA de Maryland, recently announced a million dollar ad buy on TV and radio in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. media markets. Supporters are also canvassing and phone-banking across the state to educate voters about the Maryland DREAM Act, which allows students whose parents paid Maryland taxes and who graduated from Maryland high schools to pay in-state tuition.
