CASA de Maryland Celebrates the Appointment of Tom Perez as Secretary of Labor

Hyattsville, Maryland – CASA de Maryland, the state’s largest Latino and immigrant rights organization, celebrates today’s appointment of Tom Perez as the U.S. Secretary of Labor.
Mr. Perez is a former President of CASA’s Board of Directors where he led a period of unprecedented growth and maturation of programming.
CASA’s almost 40,000 members also benefitted from his innovative policy approaches as a Member then President of the Montgomery County Council as well as his reforms to the state adult education system when he served as Maryland’s Secretary of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation.
“Tom’s capacity to match organizational mission with high performing structure and staff is legendary locally and nationally,” said Gustavo Torres, CASA Executive Director.  “Workers in America are lucky to have an advocate and change-maker like Tom as Secretary of Labor.”
Mr. Perez is the first Dominican-American to serve as the Secretary of Labor and the first Hispanic to serve in President Obama’s cabinet during the second term.
