As the grand finale of a week of Argentina’s active participation in the activities undertaken by Pope Francis during his visit to the United States, the Holy Father blessed the image of the Patroness of Argentina, Our Lady of Luján, at the chapel of the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington.
This image has held a very special place for two decades at the Embassy of Argentina located in Dupont Circle.

Blessed by Pope Francis, the statue of Our Lady Luján returned to the Embassy of Argentina where it remains at its foyer to be shared with all the Argentine community.
During the historic visit of Pope Francis to the United States, the Ambassador of Argentina, Cecilia Nahón, was invited to attend the Arrival Ceremony for the Pope, held at the White House gardens; the Canonization Mass of Junipero Serra; and the Joint Session of Congress to hear the speech delivered by Pope Francis.
In turn, the Argentine Embassy in Washington DC assisted in the attendance of the Argentine community in several of His Holiness’ local activities.
Among them, the participation of a group of Argentine children who had the opportunity to welcome Pope Francis at the Apostolic Nunciature of the Holy See. The youngsters, among them students of the Escuela Argentina, met previously at the Embassy where they were recieved by Ambassador Nahón.
Likewise, the Embassy also facilitated the participation of representatives of various institutions that bring together the Argentine community in Washington DC  (Escuela Argentina, CEGA-Centro Argentino, Argentine Embassy and international organizations, among others) in the Arrival Ceremony held in the White House gardens.
The Embassy opened its doors to the public in general to witness the historic speech of Pope Francis before the United States Congress.
