After a week of activities to push the President to expand deferred action to the fullest extent under the law and halt deportations a national or community labor march will be held this Saturday, August 2nd from the National Mall to the White House where groups will rally with speakers and performances.
«The President has a choice to make and we want him to make the right one. He has the opportunity to grant relief or continue the partisan games of the Washington he was elected to change.» explains Marisa Franco, #Not1More Campaign Director for the National Day Laborer Organizing Network «The only question left is the scope of the change the President will make and whether it will be the fullest of what people deserve. Families that want to stay together and workers who are tired of constantly looking over their shoulder for flashing lights will be marching to demand he jumpstart inclusion by using his power to recognize their equality.»
On Monday groups rallied at the White House and visited advocates offices building unity for the participation of undocumented leaders in any negotiations with the President, Wednesday LGBTQ immigrants sat-in at the Equality Caucus office to include LGBTQ issues in administrative relief, and on Thursday more than 100 faith leaders were arrested in civil disobedience in Lafayette Park to make the moral argument for deportation relief. Maru Mora Villalpando of Latino Advocacy in town for the march from Seattle, WA adds, «After years of saying he’s for immigration reform and seeing Congress not produce anything, its only common sense that he do what’s in his power to give us relief,»
Saturday will be a lively march to Freedom Plaza and then to the White House with performances by hip-hop artist Olmeca and local acts alongside people in deportation proceedings speaking out and asking the President to act before its too late for them.
