Details matter.

Staten Island, NY — President-elect Joe Biden plans to unveil a sweeping immigration bill on Day One of his administration, hoping to provide an eight-year path to citizenship for an estimated 11 million people living in the U.S. without legal status, a massive reversal from the Trump administration’s harsh immigration policies.  Yesenia Mata, executive director of La Colmena, issued the following statement:

“The nation spoke of it’s need for immediate action on immigration and I am pleased that President-elect Joe Biden is listening. Details matter, however. I am hopeful that we will finally secure a permanent legislative solution but we must ensure that it is done right.»

«The legislation must keep families together, dismantle Trump’s deportation machine, support our economy, address the root causes of forced migration, and honor the millions of essential immigrant workers who were on the front lines during the COVID-19 pandemic. Similarly, we are urging the president to take immediate unilateral action to reverse Trump’s disastrous policies. We are ready for bold legislative and executive action on immigration reform!,” she pointed out.
