STATEN ISLAND, NY — Today, the House of Representatives just passed a $3.5 trillion budget resolution, which includes over $100 billion for a pathway to citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants. Yesenia Mata, executive director of La Colmena Immigrant Rights Center, issued the following statement:

“With the budget resolution vote in the House of Representatives, we are so close to finally passing a permanent solution for millions of our undocumented families. We can’t celebrate just yet; there is still much opposition not only from Republicans, including our Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis, but also from some Democrats.»

Yesenia Mata.

«We are going to continue the pressure on Democratic leadership to ensure they do not give in to those who want to deport Dreamers and essential immigrant workers. Immigrants pay taxes and they kept our nation running during the COVID-19 pandemic. Congress needs to honor their sacrifice by finally passing a budget that includes a pathway to citizenship,» Mata pointed out.
