| Back to School Roadshow to Highlight Innovative Programs |
| Washington, D.C. — For the 4th year in a row, the number of DC public charter school students attending high-performing Tier 1 schools has increased over the year before, according to data released today by the DC Public Charter School Board (PCSB). Meanwhile, PCSB will host a roadshow for the first time to showcase the quality education, diverse programs and innovative approaches to learning that public charter schools offer. PCSB Executive Director and Board Members will tour schools, visit classrooms, greet students and talk with families at each stop on the Back to School Roadshow. Various City Officials have been invited to join the events. PCSB measures the academic quality of DC public charter schools using a performance management framework. This framework rates a school’s academic performance, and places schools in one to three performance tiers: Tier 1 – high performing, Tier 2 – mid performing, and Tier 3 – low performing. “Parents and students recognize the value of public charter schools in providing quality and choice,” said Scott Pearson, Executive Director of the DC Public Charter School Board. “While great progress is made, the schools and PCSB are committed to doing even better this year and in the years to come.” “Back to school is an important time of the school year,” said Darren Woodruff, Chairman of the DC Public Charter School Board. “That’s why the PCSB Board and staff want to be on hand to welcome students and their families back to the classroom.” For the upcoming 2015-16 academic year, three public charter schools will expand their high performing programs while four new schools will open and seven will be closed. Of the four new schools opening, three will serve students in the foster care system, have learning disabilities or difficulties managing behavior. This year, 62 nonprofits will operate 115 schools across the City. For more information, visit our school profile pages at www.dcpcsb.org/find-a-school.
