VOXXI, the premier site for the acculturated Latino providing relevant news, insightful analysis and thought-provoking blogs, was launched this week at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.
VOXXI features multimedia news, politics, business, and entertainment pieces, along with sections devoted to women’s issues, culinary, education, and everything else concerning the Latino community in the U.S. It is designed to fill a void in the mainstream media by delivering great journalism and telling captivating stories that educate, engage and entertain, all with a global Hispanic vision of the nation and the world and enriched by the power of social media.
Award-winning actor and activist Esai Morales served as the event’s master of ceremonies, Senator Robert ”Bob” Menendez, will serve as keynote speaker, with special guests Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart and Felix Sanchez, a D.C. attorney and Chairman of National Hispanic Foundation of the Arts. More than 200 guests representing a cross-section of elected officials, civic leaders, celebrities, White House appointees, educators, and media attended the event. Representing VOXXI are Dr. Salomon Melgen, Chairman and Emilio C. Sanchez, President and CEO.
“We chose to launch VOXXI at the Newseum to show the importance of the role of journalism in a free society and the role of good reporting to represent all the Hispanic communities with a strong voice,” said Emilio C. Sanchez, President and CEO of VOXXI. “Because of many great organizations and leaders committed to improving the quality of life for U.S. Hispanics, and serving as our voice in Washington, it made sense to launch VOXXI – the voice of the Hispanic 21st century – here in this diverse city.”
As part of his remarks Senator Menendez “VOXXI is on the cutting edge. It bridges a divide and recognizes the needs of a growing and evolving Hispanic American population. VOXXI will bring accurate and trustworthy commentary to bilingual Hispanics who are looking for a professional website to get reliable information on a broad range of issues important to Latinos. I congratulate everyone at VOXXI for having a clear vision and putting it to work for the community. “
Felix Sanchez discussed the findings of the “Art of Politics” impact project released today entitled: Decision 2012: Latinos M.I.A. on Sunday Morning Network Talk Shows (www.artofpolitics.us). The National Hispanic Foundation of the Arts is directing this initiative in collaboration with the National Council of La Raza, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund, and The LIBRE Initiative, Being Latino, and other important partner organizations. The project is advocating for greater representation of Hispanic and Hispanic issues on the premier Sunday Morning Talk shows.
Dr. Salomon Melgen added, “VOXXI, and what it has set out to do, has been a long-time dream of mine. With VOXXI, there is a unique opportunity to benefit all Latinos and our varied interests, we are the town square or plaza of old days; we can connect individuals, we can share our news in our voice, one single voice. VOXXI.”
To improve the representation of Latinos in mainstream media, VOXXI provides a platform where everyone; individuals, organizations, and businesses, can have a voice. VOXXI is committed to report on the stories that impact Hispanic America.
