NPRC Praise Win Against Hate Speech in “La Comay”

Washington, DC [CapitalWirePR] – The National Puerto Rican Coalition Inc. (NPRC) congratulated the Puerto Rican community on the Island and the mainland that supported the boycott against WAPA TV/WAPA America’s gossip show SuperXclusivo. The show was the target of a community boycott ignited by defamatory comments made by its main character La Comay (gossip guru Antulio «Kobbo» Santarrosa) regarding the brutal killing of publicist José Enrique Gómez Saladín. After considerable pressure from social media advocates and national community organizations like the National Puerto Rican Coalition (NPRC), National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC), National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL), and the National Congress of Puerto Rican Women (NACOPRW), WAPA TV executives had announced measures to soften the show’s tone and switching it from live to taped. On Monday, Mr Santarrosa submitted his resignation due to irreconcilable differences with the station’s management.
«NPRC was proud to be an active partner in this undertaking, today our community won an enormous victory and the moral values’ scale of our society gained a much needed boost. It is imperative to make clear that freedom of speech is a cornerstone of our democracy but even freedom of speech has its limits, hate speech and violence will never be justified,» declared Rafael A. Fantauzzi, President and CEO National Puerto Rican Coalition.
Next week, the President & CEO of the National Puerto Rican Coalition, NPRC Board members, and other community advocates will be traveling to Puerto Rico to attend the swearing-in of the incoming Senate of Puerto Rico. They have requested a meeting with the management of WAPA TV/WAPA America to discuss reconciliation.
«We like to thank the national Hispanic organizations that serve the Puerto Rican community for standing side by side with NPRC and the Boycott La Comay social media advocates for helping eradicate hate and condemn violence. To our corporate partners AT&T, Wal-Mart, Coca Cola, and Ford Motor Company, thanks for listening to your consumers. We encourage our community to support corporate brands that are socially responsible in times of crisis. Now we must focus our leadership on healing all those affected,» said Fantauzzi.
