Volunteers Needed to Lead Bone Builders Classes

They are needed in Brookeville, Cabin John, Chevy Chase, Cloverly, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring, Takoma Park and White OakVolunteers are needed to lead free Bone Builders exercise classes that help prevent falls and fractures caused by osteoporosis. Osteoporosis causes bones to become thin and to break easily.
Although osteoporosis can strike at any age, it affects one in three women and one in eight men over age 50. Bone Builders classes help regular participants increase bone density naturally.
Each one-hour Bone Builders session is based on bone density research and includes balance and weight training.  Volunteers lead the program and there is no charge to participants.
Ideal instructors seek to improve their own bone health and are able to take a lead role in conducting the class. Activities include demonstrating the exercises, encouraging and assisting participants, and ensuring a safe and clutter-free environment.
Volunteer leaders receive a full day of free training, as well as periodic refresher training classes, ongoing support and supervision by master trainers.
Bone Builders is sponsored by Montgomery County’s RSVP program and Aging and Disability Services, part of the Department of Health and Human Services. For more information about upcoming instructor training, contact Dawn Praske at 240-777-3043 or dawn.praske@montgomerycountymd.gov.
